James G. Moffet (1800-1887) had his metal products business at 121 Prince Street in New York City from 1832 to 1855. Among things he sold were solar and lard lamps and gas fixtures. He expanded to 119 Prince Street where his business remained until after his death. In 1832 he acquired a paper mill on Toney’s Brook in Bloomfield (now Glen Ridge), New Jersey and converted it into the Moffet Brass and Silver Rolling Mill. This operated until a few years after his death. His net worth when he died was several hundred thousand dollars equal to more than six million dollars today, in addition to the mill.HT-295 has PLURIBUS UNUM spelled correctly but with the S and N backwards: PLURIBUƧ UИUM. On the reverse there are 5 pointed stars on each side of the central quatrefoil. It is R-2 (501-1250 known). His tokens were issued in the 1830s.
HT-297 misspells PLUBIBUƧ on the obverse and has no stars on the reverse.
