Comment

The first Ceres medal was issued in 1971 to commemorate FAO's (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) twentieth year in Italy. Fittingly, the Roman goddess of agriculture is here represented by the distinguished Italian-born entertainer, Sophia Loren, who donated her portrait as an expression of her own belief in FAO's Food for All goal.
