Comment

The Teachers' Union originated as the Organization of Hebrew Teachers in Palestine which was founded in Zichron Ya'akov in 1903. The organization created the first curriculum for elementary schools, and remained for many years the sole institution dealing with the entire gamut of problems concerning Hebrew education in the country. In the course of years, many of the functions of the Teachers Union have been transferred to the National Educational Authorities and to the Ministry of Education after the establishment of the State. Nevertheless, the Teachers' Union, in addition to its concern with the professional problems of those engaged in teaching, continues to care for post graduate studies for teachers, the publishing of texts on education, etc.
