Comment

From 1830 to the present day, four generations of medalist artists have signed their works with the name of Penin. This Provençal family, of Flemish origin, engraved enough medals to illustrate the political, religious or economic history of Lyon through them.
Ludovic Penin (1830-1868) decided to edit the medals he engraved. More than his father, he composed many religious medals and the quality of his work earned him the title of “pontifical engraver” granted in 1864 by the Papal brief of Pius IX.
