The Florén was among the first Czech gold coins, whose coinage began in 1325. The coinage of Czech florins was a matter more representative, because Bohemia lacked larg resources of gold. High quality florins caused the lost coins out of circulation - were melted, hoarded or disappeared abroad. The most commonly used coins and silver remained in Bohemia, Prague Groschen. The exchange rate counted 16 Prague 1 penny to Florén whose weight was about 3.53 g of fineness 990/1000. The excavation of King John florins is mentioned in the Zbraslav Chronicle of Peter Žitavský. It states that in the year 1325 under the supervision of Lombardy (Florentine - hence the name Florén) in Prague started work associated with the minting of gold coins. Czech florins image retains its Italian form of artwork - a gold coin with the image of Florence heraldic lily on the obverse and the figure of St. John the Baptist on the reverse side. Just under the accelerated facial copy JOHANNES REX Boemia can discern Czech origin of the coins.
