Chimpanzees form a community (from 20 to 80 individuals) divided into several family subgroups. Males remain in their birth group, while females leave when they reach maturity. Males are very close-knit and form coalitions with each other to move up the hierarchy. Females have little interaction with each other. Chimpanzees are also capable of organizing themselves into hunting bands.
