The 'Royal Air Force March Past' is the official march of the RAF. It was composed Walford Davies in 1918, for the newly formed Royal Air Force. Walford Davies was the director of music of the Royal Air Force and established the RAF School of Music and two RAF bands. The 'Royal Air Force March Past' was a combination of the rhythm of the bugle call of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. The 'trio' section of the march past was added by composer George Dyson. The lyrics 'Through adversities we'll conquer. Blaze into the stars, A trail of glory, We'll live on land and sea, 'Til victory is won.' references the motto of the RAF 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' which means 'Through adversity to the stars'.
