(Mariinsky Palace/Kyiv 18th century) (to the left) and MARIINSKYI PALACE/KYIV 18TH CENTURY (inverse, to the right); above and below the band are stylized compositions that combine an image of the palace’s exterior and parts of the palace’s interior (the composition below the band is inverse).

This medal celebrates Mariinsky Palace, a historical and architectural monument of the 18th and the 19th centuries. Built in the Baroque style to a design by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the palace is an architectural gem of Kyiv. Throughout its history, the palace has flourished and survived destruction from fires and war. Through it all, the palace has retained its plaster sculptures, which richly decorate its Baroque facades, as well as its unique interiors designed in the Classical style, with added elements in the Baroque and Renaissance styles. At present, the palace serves as an official presidential ceremonial residence.
