This is a generic medal produced by the Hart workshop that can be used on a variety of occasions, as evidenced by the handcrafted engraving of the legend.
Medal-maker Laurent Hart (1810-1860) started his business in Rue Thérésienne, 4, Brussels, but moved to Galerie Royale, 6, in 1847, where the workshop remained until 1974. It's not uncommon to find medals signed L. Hart that were struck long after his death. This is due to the fact that the company did not have a dedicated medallist for over 100 years, which explains the continuous reuse of old dies. Various artists such as Elisa Beetz-Charpentier (1875-1949), Jacques Marin (1877-1950) and Franz Van Leemputten (1850-1914) used this workshop.
