There is the following stylized composition: an image of a Ukrainian soldier (to the left) and stylized elements of Volnovakha’s coat of arms: against the backdrop of a curved line (symbolizing Volnovakha’s location in one of the highest places of the Azov Upland) and a wavy line with fountains (standing for the Volnovakha River, the name of which is derived from the large number of springs in the area), are a flying bird and its reflection on a smooth background, symbolizing people’s confidence that the city will be liberated.

This medal celebrates the heroic deeds, widespread acts of heroism and resilience that residents of Volnovakha displayed during the defense of the city from russian attacks. Volnovakha has been at war since May 2014, while during the full-scale invasion the city found itself on the front line, where fierce fighting was taking place. The city, which lies on important routes connecting Mariupol with Donetsk and with Zaporizhzhia, was a tasty morsel for the invaders. Relentless airstrikes and artillery shelling destroyed all of the city’s infrastructure, leaving the city practically wiped off the map, and occupied.
