The commemorative medal is dedicated to the symbol of superhuman courage, strength, indomitable spirit, struggle, heroism and tragedy - the city of Mariupol and the heroes-defenders who defended it from the Russian invaders. Steadfast and determined resistance of the defenders of Mariupol became a serious test for the enemy, took away a significant part of his personnel, weapons and slowed down the advance of Russian troops in other operational directions. The defense of Mariupol and Azovstal, which lasted 86 days, 82 of which were completely surrounded, is one of the most outstanding manifestations of the valor of Ukrainian soldiers in recent history.
