Alba Carolina Citadel is a star-shaped fortress located in Alba Iulia. Its construction began on November 4, 1715 during the rule of the Habsburgs in Transylvania and was completed in 1738. 20,000 subjects were involved in its construction, which is estimated at around 3 million guilders.

The project, carried out for 16 years, between 1970 and 1985, marked 16 centuries from Buzău's documentary attestation. During its development, every year 16 artists gathered on the shores of Magura, who with the help of local stonemasons transformed the local stone into works of art. The 256 sculptural groups and statues are the work of 153 Romanian sculptors who donated the result of their work to the Buzău County.

Since 2006, the museum has been managed by the Buzău District Museum.
