Establishment of Jean Huwels and Lina Nickels, located at no. 7, Place d'Armes, Luxembourg City. The couple took over the 150 m2 café on December 31, 1908. Following the death of Jean Huwels, the widow ran the establishment for some time, selling it in January 1923 to Joseph Schmitz for FLUX 60,000 (= €1,500). The information given by R. Weiller on page 321 is partially erroneous, as the dates of acquisition do not correspond exactly.

Unlike the majority of Luxembourg tokens, the present type was not used for bowling, but was intended to facilitate server counts. In 1909, the Huwels-Nickels couple issued ten different tokens with face values ranging from 15 to 100 francs.

Weiller-type token no. 17, ordered via the Aloyse Anen intermediary house and minted by an undetermined German workshop.
