Token from the Poggi house in Esch-sur-Alzette. The Italian-born owner, Alfred Poggi, is first mentioned in 1922. His business was located at 116, rue de la Poste in Esch-sur-Alzette (138, rue de l'Alzette from 1923). Alfred Poggi was a retailer and wholesaler of fruit, vegetables and greengrocers, as well as cigarettes and various materials. In 1939, the "Société anonyme luxembourgeoise d'importation et d'exportation de fruits, légumes et primeurs" was created, with the Poggi family remaining shareholders. The present token, whose exact use remains unknown, was probably minted prior to the creation of the S.A. and can therefore be dated between 1922 and 1939. The intermediary house and mint are also unknown.
