The island of Oleron (in saintongeais Ilâte d'Olerun) is located in the Bay of Biscay, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, off the coast of Charente-Maritime of which it is a part, 1.5 km from the Spanish point and 14.5 km north of the estuary of the Gironde. With the islands of Ré, Aix, Madame and Nôle, it is part of the Charente archipelago; it is separated from the peninsula of Marennes by the coureau d'Oléron, to the north, and from the peninsula of Arvert by the pertuis de Maumusson, to the south. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Ele_d'Ol%C3%A9ron
