Originally, Henri-Durand Morimbeau, a lawyer, and Achille Colin, a secretary, decided to create a casino in Cabourg. Construction began on May 9, 1854. It was a wooden casino. But the casino was too close to the sea wall. In 1867, the architect Isouard built a new one. The new casino is closer to the sea, a few steps from the grand Hôtel de la Plage, built in 1862. A large ballroom was added in 1880 to enlarge the casino, considered too small. Charles Bertrand modernized the establishment in 1891 with the arrival of electricity. In 1909, however, he finally decided to build a new casino at the same time as the adjoining grand hotel.
