Comment
This token is struck by Pichard Balme in Saumur, an Arthus Bertrand subsidiary since its takeover in 1999.
The token represents the Church of Sainte Radegonde.
In the light of the Saintonge region, the mass of the building is of great purity. A square bell tower dominates the monument's compact volume. The nave, shortened in the 15th century, gives the church its imposing silhouette. The fortifications that protected the church in the late Middle Ages add to the building's power. The transept is flanked by apsidioles opening onto the arcatures of a semi-circular chevet. The voussoirs of the portal are adorned with angels in adoration before the Paschal Lamb. Acrobats, figures on the capitals and representations of the Bestiary plunge us, thanks to major restoration work, into the tangible universe of a Romanesque space.
