Comment

Jean Joly, maître des comptes, was elected mayor for three periods: 1667 - 1670, 1681 - 1684 and 1687 - 1690.
At his request, letters patent were published in December 1668, deciding :
1/ the reduction of Dijon's magistracy to septemvirs, i.e. the mayor, known as the vicomte-maieur, and the six échevins: the procureur syndic, the secrétaire, the receveur, the contrôleur and two prud'hommes;
2/ that no one may be reappointed to the échevinage until four years after leaving it;
3/ that the mayor will be elected every two years, starting in 1670.
