Historical background:
Comprising the Vendôme region and the Loir valley, the Vendômois was confiscated from the English by Philippe Auguste and attached to the royal domain in 1214. Made a duchy in 1515 for the House of Bourbon, it was given to César de Bourbon, the natural son of Henri IV and Gabrielle d'Estrées. The duchy was definitively attached to the Crown in 1712 (CGB).
