This was a campaign token of the 1840 presidential election for Martin Van Buren, the incumbent and a founder of the Democratic party. He lost to the Whig candidate William Henry Harrison. He subsequently emerged as an anti-slavery leader and ran as a candidate of the Free Soil Party in the 1848 presidential election. There are three metals for the otherwise identical HT#75 tokens.
HT#75, copper (R-2, 501-1,250 known)
HT#75A, brass (R-3, 201-500 known)
HT#75B, silvered copper (R-4, 76-200 known)
