Comment

Deodatus Woodbridge Davenport lived from 1798 to 1848 and had a store in New Haven, Connecticut which this token advertised. From his will written in 1846, he gave his house and lot in Chapel Street to his wife. They had one daughter, born after the will was written. Upon his wife’s death, he willed everything to the New Haven Orphan Asylum. It is a consolation to reflect that what has been obtained from the superfluity of one generation.
