The Metropolitan Athletic Federation (or FAM) is the body responsible for athletics in the Federal Capital and Greater Buenos Aires. It was founded on July 4, 1919 and is affiliated with the Argentine Athletics Confederation.
On July 4, 1919, the Argentine Athletic Federation was founded, thus beginning federated athletics in Argentina. On November 1, 1919, the first Metropolitan Athletics Championship was held at the San Isidro Athletic Club, organized by the Youth Christian Association.
A year later, on April 2 and 3, 1920, the Argentine Athletic Federation held the first National Athletics Championship. The FAA had international recognition before the International Association of Athletics Federations and before the International Olympic Committee from its creation in 1919 until 1961, the year in which it passed into the hands of the Argentine Athletics Confederation.
