Comment

1901 $1 Lesher Dollar, Imprint Type, Serial #45, Zerbe-5, HK-791, R.6, Former ANA President Adna G. Wilde, Jr. was a devoted student of Lesher dollars, and researched the pedigrees of hundreds of examples. He determined that the earliest known auction appearance of a Lesher dollar was in Lyman Low's sale of the H.G. Brown Collection, on October 11, 1904. J.M. Clapp secured the lot, and his estate was purchased in 1942 by Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. It was apparently the sole Lesher dollar in his heralded collection. It is an example of the very scarce Imprint Type, without a merchant counterstamp in the open lower obverse field.
