Société des Aciéries de Longwy was founded in 1880 and had up to 9 blast furnaces. In 1953, it merged with Société Métallurgique de Senelle-Maubeuge and Société Escaut et Meuse to become Société Lorraine - Escaut. Production ceased in 1978.
The Longwy ironworks minted five different tokens, all in brass, with different face values (5, 20, 50 centimes and 1 and 5 francs).
