Sedantag ("Sedan Day") was a commemorative day celebrated annually on September 2 during the Wilhelminian Empire (1871-1918). It commemorated September 2, 1870, the day that saw the decisive victory of Prussian troops over the French near the town of Sedan in the Ardennes département, during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. During the battle of Sedan, the French Emperor Napoleon III was taken prisoner by Prussian troops (Source: www.wikipedia.org).
