The Singapore Mint Lunar Tiger Medallion depicts a pair of majestic tigers surrounded by orange Scarlet Star flowers, also known as ‘pineapple flowers’. The tiger is an auspicious animal that symbolises protection, vitality and power. The Scarlet Star flowers, which blooms to form a star-shape, capture all the ‘blessings from heaven’ – thus symbolizing the blessings of prosperity and wealth. Derived from its commonly known English name, ‘pineapple flowers’, pineapple is pronounced as ‘ong lai’ in the Hokkien dialect which translates to ‘good fortune arriving’. Hence, the Scarlet Star flowers hold the symbolic meaning of bringing in plentiful of wealth and good luck. The reverse side of the medallion features “福旺”, blessing everyone with an abundance of prosperity and good fortune.
