Comment
The Singapore Mint Lunar Ox Medallion depicts a pair of lovely oxen encompassed by Red Boat Orchids. The ox is a prosperous symbol of abundance and ambition. It embodies the blessings to achieve one’s goals through their own strengths as the ox is highly regarded as a symbol of diligence and determination.Prized for their large elegant blooms during spring, Red Boat Orchids symbolises blossoming prosperity in the New Year. In addition to its magnificent blooms, the buds also hold auspicious meaning as they resemble the Chinese firecrackers. Hence, Red Boat Orchids are commonly known as “红炮” (Chinese firecrackers) in Chinese – which in traditional Chinese culture, firecrackers are lit to symbolically chase away evil, usher in prosperity and fortune into a home. The reverse side of the medallion features “安康”, signifying the blessing of safety and good health to everyone.
