Comment

1888, Brussels BE – "Grand Concours International des Sciences et de l’Industrie" was held between 11 May – Oct 1888 at Parc du Cinquantenaire. This was a period of social unrest, in 1886 there were riots based on economic grievances that was bloodily suppressed. There were ongoing demands for universal suffrage. As a result the attendance was disappointing. Most of the medals prepared for the event were not awarded. This medal was prepared by Universal Academy of Industrial Sciences and Arts, founded in Brussels in 1849.
