Distributor on Boulevard de la Corne D'OrThe Citadelle Saint-Elme in Villefranche-sur-Mer is a historic monument1 that forms part of a larger military complex that includes the Fort du Mont Alban, the Saint-Hospice tower in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and the Beaulieu-sur-Mer battery. This system formed a defensive complex around the royal port of La Darse, the military port of the Savoy States.
Built in the 16th century, the Villefranche citadel is one of the earliest examples of a bastioned fortification in Europe. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citadelle_Saint-Elme
