Comment

Some medals made in 1922 have · A · N · M · · V · C · on reverse (for the Associazione Nazionale Madri e Vedove dei Caduti = National Association for the Mothers and Widows of the Fallen). The medals without this extra writing where instituted on 19 January 1922 and awarded to combatants in the war of 1915 to 1918 since it was regarded as the final phase of the Risorgimento (the unification of Italy). A number of versions are known by different makers.
