In 1981, the city of Lausanne celebrated the anniversary of the unification of the Lausanne community. Signed on 6 July 1481, the act of union brought together the City, which until then had been under episcopal administration, and the Lower Town, which had been politically autonomous for more than a century. The event was commemorated over the summer with various civic events and an exhibition at the Town Hall Forum (Hugli, 1981).
