Cupro-aluminium-nickel token = left photo "PARIS" in lean. The Palais Jacques-Cœur is a private mansion in Bourges, considered one of the most sumptuous civil buildings of the 15th century and a masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic civil architecture, thanks to the elegance of its architecture and the richness and variety of its decoration. This 15th-century building prefigures the hôtels particuliers that were to flourish during the Renaissance and, along with the Château de Montsoreau (1453) and the Château de Châteaudun (1452), is one of the earliest examples of pleasure architecture in France.
It was the brainchild of wealthy merchant Jacques Coeur, who wanted to build a "grand house" in his native town, but Charles VII's paymaster never actually lived there.
The palace was listed as a historic monument in 1840. State-owned since 1923, it is managed, animated and open to visitors by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux.
