Wibald was an important figure of his time, advising 3 German emperors, including Frederick Barbarossa. He carried out numerous diplomatic missions, including several trips to Rome and two to Constantinople. It was on his return from the second trip to the capital of the Byzantine Empire that he died in Macedonia.
