Token used for bus ticket payment in the 1960s.Viaor Andorinha Ltda also known as Andorinha Rio was a Brazilian urban collective transport company of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
It is based in Bangu.
Brief history.
The name Viação Andorinha originally appeared in the early 1960s, when a company with that name explored the region known as the Serra do Barata Trail, at the foot of the Pedra Branca massif. In 1969 its fleet was of 66 cars. In 1982 the Andorinha joined (minority-minor participation) with Auto Viação Bangu, being incorporated by her. At the time, the Swallow had 117 cars, and the Bangu was 122.
What remained of the old Swallow in the merger were the colors red and cream and the "flag" LTDA. Therefore, the new and powerful Auto Vanguard Bangu of 239 cars gave continuity to the colors and transformed into the seat of its acquired garage.
But in 1995, Bangu made a split and the Andorinha went back to operating independently, under prefix 59000, certainly without any relation to the old Swallow 14000.
The company has a fleet of more than 200 vehicles and more than 700 employees, connecting the neighborhoods of the West Zone and connecting the districts of the Center and the suburb of the North Zone to the West Zone. In November 2010, Andorinha Rio began to operate within the Consórcio Santa Cruz, losing its colors, after the standardization imposed by the city hall. Due to financial problems, it closed its activities on March 03, 2015.
