This is an Australian item that was also used in New Zealand. Cataloged in both Australian and New Zealand Token catalogs.
There was a production plant in Australia. Offices: 5 Cummingham Street Sydney; 12 George Street Leichhardt; and Gracefield, Lower Hutt City, Wellington.
The batteries referred to are not domestic batteries but automotive. The tokens were issued around 1940.
Two Obverse die types listed by Dean and also by Shea. The NZ catalog lists them as copper and brass and does not note the die variety. At this stage all those I have sighted (7) have been brass. Shea lists them as bronze. Dean lists them as brass.
