The Théâtre Comte, also known as the Théâtre des Jeunes-Élèves, is a Parisian theater opened by ventriloquist and magician Louis Comte in 1820 in the Passage des Panoramas (2nd arrondissement).
In 1826, when Louis Comte had to leave the Passage des Panoramas for safety reasons, he commissioned architects Allard and Brunneton to build a new theater in the Choiseul district, which was currently being redeveloped. With double access from passage Choiseul and rue Neuve-Ventadour (now rue Monsigny), it was inaugurated on January 23, 1827.
In 1846, a law forbade children from performing in the theater, so Louis Comte handed over management to his son Charles. In 1855, Jacques Offenbach took over the lease and established his Bouffes-Parisiens theater, a name the venue has retained to this day. (Wikipedia)

Louis-Christian-Emmanuel-Apollinaire Comte was a Swiss magician and ventriloquist born in Geneva to a French father on June 22, 1783, and died in Rueil (Seine-et-Oise) on November 25, 1859. He was a 19th-century Parisian artist renowned for his art of prestidigitation and ventriloquism, which is said to be the science of engastrimysme. Louis XVIII awarded him the title of "King's Physicist", which he used for all his performances. (Wikipedia)

Very popular with families and schools, Louis Comte gave performances every evening at 6:30pm, for prices ranging from 1F to 5F(ACJM).

For advertising purposes, he produced paper vouchers and tokens.
