The Astor Hotel Tianjin (formerly known as Asia Hotel and Tianjin Hotel) was built in the second year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1863) and was located in the British Concession of Tianjin at that time.
The Astor Hotel Tianjin is the first foreign-funded hotel in the history of Tianjin. It was an important place for diplomatic activities in modern history. The United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan and other countries have successively set up their consulates in the hotel. Many treaties between China and Western countries in modern times were signed here. Sun Yat-sen, US President Hoover, British King Edward VIII, Chaplin, Mei Lanfang and other famous figures have stayed or lived here.
It reopened in 2010 and is operated and managed by Starwood Hotel Group. In April 2018, it was separated from Starwood Group and operated by Tianjin Tourism Group.
