(1480) Gules a lion argent; on a chief azure three fleurs-de-lis or.https://armorialdefrance.fr/page_blason.php?ville=273Two fixed statuettes represent the first two bishops of Lyon: Saint Pothin and Saint Irénée. The structure culminates in a dome supporting a cockerel, which rises to a height of 9 metres from the ground (the total height is 9.35 m).
To complete the perpetual calendar, an ecclesiastical almanac specifies the dates of Ash Wednesday (first day of Lent), Easter, Ascension, Pentecost and Advent until 2019.
In 1598, Hugues Levet, a clockmaker from Lyon, repaired the clock with the help of Johannes Lippius, a mathematical and astronomical scholar. He installed it permanently in the north transept, where it still stands today. It was completed in 1660 by Guillaume Nourisson.
Despite its successive restorations, the Saint Jean clock is the only one in France to retain its original mechanism: all the old cogs are made of wrought iron, and the few modern ones of bronze. https://www.lyon-france.com/je-decouvre-lyon/sites-et-monuments/Sites-et-monuments-remarquables/l-horloge-astronomique
