The Baleines lighthouse is located on the western tip of the Ile de Ré (Charente-Maritime), in the French commune of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines.The lighthouse owes its name to the fact that a relatively large number of whales used to come ashore at this point on the Ile de Ré in the past. It is the successor to the old Baleines lighthouse built by Vauban. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phare_des_Baleines
