The Ile d'Oléron (in saintongeais Ilâte d'Olerun) is located in the Bay of Biscay, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, off the coast of Charente-Maritime, of which it is a part, 1.5 km from the Spanish headland and 14.5 km north of the Gironde estuary. Together with the islands of Ré, Aix, Madame and Nôle, it forms part of the Charente archipelago, separated from the Marennes peninsula by the Coureau d'Oléron to the north, and from the Arvert peninsula by the Pertuis de Maumusson to the south. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Île_d'Oléron
