The A, B, C and D type reverses relate to the common dies used by Precision Engineering for their milk token production.
A type has single dot dividers
B type is blank or no dots
C type has Crosses
D type has Double dots
Each type has more than one die variety due to breakages and wear. Each token batch was generally in the order of 10,000 tokens so a lot of production impact on the dies.
For Chadfield
The A10 die was exclusively used for copper while the A2 die was used for the CuNi issue.
(Summer / Winter issues)
No B type die was used
A single C type (C2)
However for the D Type, two different dies were used.
D6 - Four dots; 1.5 mm between each pair of dots
D2 - Four dots; 1 mm between each pair of dots;
