The abbey's coat of arms, Sable, six (ten) shells Argent (4,) 3, 2 and 1; on a chief Azure, three fleurs-de-lis Or, is the oldest and best-known.https://armorialdefrance.fr/page_blason.php?ville=2267The pilgrimage to Mont Saint-Michel is attested to as far back as the 9th century, and it is likely that the Miquelots found lodging and food in one of the village inns that had sprung up to welcome them at the foot of the mountain. The village thus developed in the shadow of its medieval abbey, growing at the turn of the millennium thanks to the protection of the Benedictine abbots. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Mont-Saint-Michel
