Comment

Civil War Store Card for Frederick and Louis Ladner's North Military Hall, a Beer Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Ladners obtained store cards from local token maker Peter Jacobus. Peter Jacobus prepared three obverse dies and four reverse dies which were only used to strike tokens for this merchant. Three die combinations were struck only on copper planchets and all three token varieties were released into circulation. A unique white metal token using the third obverse and fourth reverse dies is larger than the other tokens and may have been a rejected die trial. Unlike many of the token makers, Peter Jacobus did not use any of the dies for this merchant to create collector strikes.
