Nicolas de Faverolles was a member of the haberdashery corps and was consul in 1657.In 1544, the administration of the poor of the city of Paris was entrusted to a Bureau des pauvres: the public administration thus took over from the clergy the role of assisting the most destitute. This office was composed of six members of the Parliament, six lawyers, a counselor at the Chamber of Accounts, two canons, three priests, four prosecutors at the Châtelet and sixteen notables. Among the richest citizens, a collector of the poor was chosen, elected for two years and charged with collecting the various taxes established for this purpose.
