This is one of the two types of gas tokens issued by the local gas company for use in automatic gas meters. The other type is in aluminium. The gas meters accepted both types.
With every change in tarif, the gas company changed from the alumium tokens to the brass tokens, and vice versa.
In 1946, a five-pointed star was punched in the brass tokens.
Tokens without a hole are rare.
