Known as the "Queen of Missions", Mission Santa Barbara (Spanish: La Misión de La Señora Bárbara, Virgen y Mártir) was founded on December 4, 1786 by Father Fermín Francisco de Lasuén, four years after the founding of the fortress that gave rise to the city of Santa Barbara, California.

The Santa Barbara mission is one of the only missions in California still occupied by Franciscan fathers. In 1786, Father Junipero Serra founded the "Queen of Missions", which became the most important Franciscan convent in California.
