Comment

The current building was born of the ambition of the canons of Saint-Quentin. Wishing to demonstrate their power and independence from the bishops, they wanted to build a church that would surpass the size of neighboring cathedrals, particularly those of Noyon and Soissons. This goal was achieved, with the basilica ranking among France's largest churches, with dimensions comparable to those of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. However, due to financial constraints and the wars, the building was never completed. Instead of the planned monumental façade, the basilica retains its tower-porch inherited from the Carolingian abbey church, giving it a singular appearance. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilique_Saint-Quentin
