Comment

In the 16th to 18th centuries (1501-1800) insurance was above all maritime. It is a contract by which an individual undertakes to repair the losses linked to a shipwreck, in return for a certain sum which is paid to the bearer in advance.

Under the reign of king Louis XV, the general insurance company obtained the privilege in 1753 to furthermore extend the insurance. Which then included insurance against fires, maritime trade, and house fires.

This insurance coin was issued between 1774-1791 during the reign of King Louis XVI of France and Navarre. (1791-1792 as only king of France) Duly noted this was the last reign of a king of France leading the the French revolution.
