The Administration of Waters and Forests was created in 1291 by King Philippe le Bel, to maintain France's water and forest resources. A series of jeton were issued by the Kingdom of France & it's States in recognition of the department's role. Today, it is succeeded by the French “Office national des forêts” (ONF)
