*Translated from French - Brittany was, in all the French provinces, the one in which the monarchy best respected the privileges and local particularities. Its union dates only from 1532 and its states were the most turbulent of the kingdom. Their agreement was necessary for all levies and the execution of all edicts, even sovereign ones. They were held every two years. The three orders were represented with bishops, abbots, representatives of the towns and especially many nobles (six to seven hundred) who generally imposed their will on others, although the vote was taken by order. The nobles and squires formed what was called the "bastion", tyrannizing the rest of the assembly and were especially attracted by feasts and feasts. The main resource of the provincial budget was provided by "duties", a very productive tax on beverages, but also the "fire" or "flogging". Despite these revenues, the administration of the states of Brittany was nevertheless costly and on the eve of the Revolution, the States are indebted for fifty million pounds. The states have manufactured about 150 different tokens, to be offered to members of its administration as a bonus: 100 for each president, 50 for each auditor, etc.Price
